With Safeco Field, the home of the baseball Mariners, right next door to Qwest Field in downtown Seattle, and today's NFC Playoff football match-up between the Seahawks and Washington Redskins being held there, the grounds crew at Safeco thought it would be nice to welcome the NBC TV crew of Tom Hammond and Cris Collinsworth by writing their names in the infield clay today. They had done it before for an ESPN crew as well, before a Monday night game.
But, there was one little problem this time around. The Safeco staff forgot to check on the exact spelling of Collinsworth's name. They spelled it with an 'H', but Collinsworth's Chris is spelled 'Cris' without one.
So of course the courtesy blimp shot has to show what a great job the Safeco staff did, but in the end, it just showed that they need to do their homework next time so they can avoid the 'honored' announcer from having to use the telestrator to correctly spell his name.
It was funny/awkward live TV at its best.
